49 Days from Nairobi to Livingstone at Victoria Falls


Itinerary for The Big Six

Guide only


Days 1 – 3 KENYA

Departure meeting, Giraffe Park, Rift Valley, morning and afternoon game drives and overnight camp in The Masai Mara, Maasai village visit.  


Optional excursions: Sheldrick's Elephant orphanage, night out at Carnivores restaurant or similar.


Days 4 – 7

Lake Naivasha, game drives in Lake Nakuru National Park, Eldoret.

 

Optional excursions: Hippo cruise, Elsamere for afternoon tea, cycling in Hells Gate National Park, guided hike to Green Crater Lake.


Days 8 – 16  UGANDA

Transfer to Jinga, departure meeting by the White Nile and Bujagali Falls, Lake Victoria, Kampala, Drum markets, Queen Elizabeth National Park including a game cruise and game drive, Kabale and/or Lake Bunyoni.  

 

Optional excursions: White water rafting, village walk, bungee jump, kayaking, boat trips, voluntary work in a local school, quad biking, horse riding, Ngamba Island chimpanzee Sanctuary.


Days 17 - 19 RWANDA

Kigale, Ruhengeri and the Virungas.

 

Optional excursions: Genocide museum and memorial, mountain gorilla trek in either Parc Nacional de Volcans (Rwanda) or Bwindi Impenetrable Forest (Uganda), golden monkeys trek, visit to Dian Fossey’s grave, orphanage and preschool visit.


Drive through to Arusha, Ngorongoro Crater for guided game drives, Maasai Boma visit (village), Mto Wa Mbu markets.


Optional excursions: Game drives in the Serengeti National Park*

Please note some months we travel into Arusha via the Serengeti National Park in the truck. This eliminates a days driving, drops the cost of the Serengeti to £115 and allows us another experience of camping in a national park with the truck. On these months the kitty payment rises accordingly.


Days 26 - 32 TANZANIA

including 4 nights allotted for Zanzibar Island....


The chance of views of Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam camp by the Indian Ocean and seafood bbq.


Optional free time to stay on Zanzibar island from day 28, returning to Dar es Salaam on the day 32.  


Talk with us as to the special arrangements we can make for your accommodation staying in beach cottages and the traditional ancient capital, Stone Town, and your other requirements inciuding transfers and spice tours.  


Other options to budget for include snorkelling excursions to Prison Island, famous for its giant tortoise as well as Mnemba Atoll, dolphin boat trips, Jozani Forest hike to see the red colobus monkeys, scuba diving.


All accommodation and transfers including spice tours on Zanzibar Island can be arranged ahead of time.


Days 33 - 38 TANZANIA - MALAWI

Drive through Mikumi National Park, Lake Malawi beach camps, village visits including for a traditional meal and curio markets.


Optional excursions: Water sports, horse riding in the Lake, Livingstonia hike, school visit.


Days 38 - 45 ZAMBIA

South Luangwa National Park for game drives (season pending), Lusaka.


Optional excursions: Evening game drives in Luangwa (season pending), houseboat cruise including guided
game walks.  


Days 45 - 49 ZAMBIA (ZIMBABWE)

Livingstone and Victoria Falls.


Optional excursions: Lion walks, elephant rides, rhino trek, bungee jump, gorge swing, abseil, flying fox, tandem sky dive, white water rafting, "flight of the angels", breakfast drift canoe, sunset cruise, interactive drumming and many other activities based around the Victoria Falls.  


Please note safari itineraries are given as a guide only. A safari is a journey and true journeys in Africa unfold and are of an adventurous nature, the unexpected can arise, so do allow for this.  Do note some entry to some game parks particularly South Luangwa is seasonal.
